Day 3 of 31 Days of Fat Loss:  Managing Expectations

Becky WilliamsUncategorized

It’s Day 3 of 31 Days of Fat Loss!  Time to talk about expectations on your health and fitness journey.

It’s easy to get sucked into the trap of high expectations.  To expect the so-called “typical” fat loss result of ½-2 pounds lost per week (or more!).  To expect linear progress.  Unfortunately, that’s not how it always works.  In fact, this is what really happens:

No matter how perfect your plan and compliance, it’s still a process of two steps forward, one step back, two steps sideways, one step forward.  Expect the unexpected.  And be truly okay with what happens.  It’s so easy to say, “I’ll be happy as long as I lose 1 pound this week,” but then be upset if that’s exactly what happens.  Deep down inside, you were really hoping to lose more, and that single pound lost seems like a let-down.  Think about all those contestants on the weight loss reality shows who are disappointed with a 5-pound loss on the scale!  Talk about crazy expectations.

Accept that this process is going to take longer than you think it will.  Embrace a long-term view and everything that comes along with it.  This will save you tons of frustration and stress (which we both know are enemies of fat loss!).  As difficult as it is, don’t let your emotions dictate your fat loss efforts.  Use logic and strategy to get to where you’re going.
